| Envelope #1
To begin, we need to start with two questions.
The first is, "Do you believe in God?"
Actually there are about four ways to answer this question, and they come down to one of these choices: You believe there is a God (Deism and Theism) or that there is no God (Atheism) or that one cannot know about how the universe was created or if divine beings exist (Agnosticism). He are some very simple explanations of these four beliefs:
- Deists believe some kind of “god” being exists, created the universe, and that’s the extent of what it means to be a Deist. They don’t necessarily have a description of said “god,” don’t necessarily speculate about any other abilities, don’t necessarily speculate about a description, have no belief said “god” interacts or interferes in the lives of man, don’t have holy books, and don’t necessarily believe in god-given morality; they don’t tend to believe in the supernatural, don’t necessarily believe in an afterlife, etc. Simply a belief that some kind of “god” being created the known universe.
- A Theist is someone who believes in the existence of the Supreme Being or deities, specifically - in Monotheism {just one Supreme Being} - of a creator who intervenes in the universe. Theists thinks the Creator implanted in all things certain immutable laws, called the Laws of Nature, which act per se, as a watch acts without the supervision of its maker.
- An Atheist doesn’t believe in a god or a divine being.
- An Agnostic neither believes nor disbelieves in a god or religious doctrine. Agnostics assert that it is impossible for human beings to know anything about how the universe was created and if divine beings exist. An Agnostic believes only what is knowable. An Agnostic is neither theist, deist, nor atheist, as all these are past understanding.
Before you go further, please note again that the above information is fairly simplistic; books and books and books have been written on Deisn, Theism, Atheism, and Agnosticism. But let's move on ...
The second question asks, "Where are you in all this?"
o I am an Agnostic or Atheist. Okay. We wish you well; you probably don't want to proceed further, but you are welcome to do so. If you want to continue, give some thought on your belief in a Supreme Being and return tomorrow to this spot to open Envelope #2.
or
o I am a Deist or Theist. (I believe in God.) Okay. Today think about how this entire universe is no accident, but a true marvel beyond the understanding of mere humans and tomorrow return to this spot to open Envelope #2.
