My visit with Tim and Ellen went very well.
Got up early in Tampa and arrived uneventfully in Indianapolis where I was picked up by Tom and Ellen and then we drove over to Speedway Township, the location of the Indianapolis 500 raceway and now the location of some very nice shops and activities revolving around racing. There I was treated to rides in a very high-powered go kart on a very nice indoor track. Lots and lots of fun. Later that day we went to the movies and watched "Reagan," a good movie that I recommend.
Saturday, our activities included:
- Touring Fort Benjamin Harrison
- Having breakfast there in a quaint restaurant that was once a stable
- Finding Bonnie's old set of government quarters there
- Visiting the now empty chapel site of Jay and Bonnie's marriage, but seeing a similar chapel on the base, and
- Seeing the Officers’ Club where jay and Bonnie had their wedding reception.
Off post, we also found the three different homes where our family lived when Dad was assigned there.
Later that night we went down to Carmel's Performing Arts Center where, at the Palladium Concert Hall, we took in a very nice jazz performance by Boney James.
Sunday we had a tasty lunch at First Watch with Katie, Colleen, Carrie, and Nora; and also had a a quiet evening.
Columbus advertises itself as a hidden gem known for its stunning modern architecture. People visit to admire iconic buildings like the First Christian Church and Irwin Union Bank, designed by renowned architects like Eero Saarinen and I.M. Pei. The city's commitment to public art and design is evident in its numerous sculptures and murals scattered throughout the streets. Visitors can also enjoy the vibrant arts scene, with galleries, theaters, and music venues. Columbus is a delightful surprise, offering a unique blend of architectural marvels, cultural attractions, and a welcoming community. We did have a great day there including a tasty lunch at a well known eatery and a tour of the Cummings Diesel Museam.
Whew, what a great four days. And, yes, I caught my flight home without any problems.
Tom and Ellen: You sure took care of ne. It was wonderful!
