Memories of Elaine Braden

Elaine Braden's Celebration of Life Eulogy
By Robert Braden

Good afternoon family and friends of Nanny,

We are very sorry that we could not make it in person today. In January, we welcomed Nanny’s 16th and 17th great grand children! Yes, we had twins. We're still figuring it out. We would have liked to be here with you all celebrating the life of Nanny!

While it makes me sad we couldn't make it today, we were honored to be able to come to Nanny's 100th birthday celebration as a family last year. That was such a sweet event to celebrate an incredible milestone! Our hope is to make it to the burial ceremony next month in Maryland to honor and celebrate her life.

Nanny's passing brings out many mixed feelings. Yes, sadness, but also gratitude for 101 years on earth. I hope I received those genes!

I have so many sweet memories of Nanny from differing time periods. We don't have time for all of them, but here are a few. Playing golf together in Brandon, Florida. Lots of memories from Severna Park. Games downstairs in their basement, crabbing at their clubhouse on the Severn River, Nanny and Bill's 50th anniversary surprise party. We also spent many weeks together in Ocean City Maryland. Lots of good times at the beach and eating blue crab!

I also remember lots of family cruises together. I especially remember our time on a trip to Key West where we walked around and toured the historic area. I believe Kyle was there for that!

One of my favorite recent memories of Nanny was a video call with her. She was so sweet and I loved hearing how she talked to her caretakers, was so complimentary of them, and I loved to hear how they spoke to her. I could tell she really loved and appreciated all of you here at the Green Cottages. It sounded like the feeling was mutual!

I loved Nanny very much. It's special for my kids to have known their great grandmother. That's not something many of us get to do!

We will miss her greatly (we already do), but we are grateful for our time with her!

With love, the Braden bunch.
