Let's go back briefly:

• Prior to "retiring" - see below - Joyce worked at a number of Tampa hospitals, including the bone marrow transport unit at Moffitt. At what was then University Community Hospital (UCH) she was the Charge Nurse for what was then the ICU Step Down unit on 3 Main. At one point she was married to Dr. Federico Pollicina who was a renowned Tampa cardiologist and Chief of Staff at UCH. (Fred died of cancer in 2015.)

• Joyce has not worked for money in nearly ten years, yet she works at no charge seemingly all the time as a Patient Advocate for friends and family. She is a CCRN - Critical Care Registered Nurse - and keeps her certifications current. When we are injured or ill, we are all taken care of by great medical professionals in wonderful facilities using the latest diagnostic tools and who have access to the latest in essentially miracle drugs. But sometimes we laymen do not know what questions to ask. That is where Joyce comes in, making sure we laymen know what questions to ask and what possible treatments to seek. (Yes, she gets offered jobs all the time.)

So Joyce came up with a Feed-a-Floor initiative for AdventHealth, the hospital that was the former UCH, located adjacent to the University of South Florida campus in Tampa.

With some help from Vicki, a nurse at AdventHealth and a very close friend, she learned that Floor 4NE - the COVID-19 floor - was receptive and willing to try some outside food. So Joyce contacted BubbaQue's - Brandon and arranged food for the 20-25 staffers who would be there for lunch. Actually she ordered food for 30 which included box lunches involving pulled pork and pulled chicken plus garlic toast and a variety of sides.

While a service like Uber could have surely delivered the food, Joyce was concerned about the numerous details involved in the transfer, so she and Jay did the delivery themselves - each with face masks and rubber gloves and wipes and hand sanitizers and an abundance of caution.

The pick-up was smooth, with the food being ready to load into the car. Travel to AdventHealth was quick and easy because there were few cars on the road. As prearranged, a crew came down from 4NE to pick up the goodies, and they expressed their appreciation.
